The Need for Space

As the Music Project has grown over the last five years, it has become plainly evident that the facilities for our flagship program in Cusmapa are woefully inadequate.
Teatro Alpino
The small classroom where music is taught is tiny - the choir of 40 students barely fits, there are no private areas where our young musicians can rehearse or practice without outside distractions and there is no indoor performance space that can accommodate an audience of any size.

The Solution – The Teatro Alpino

Fabretto plans to begin construction in early 2007 of the Teatro Alpino – a wonderful new facility that will meet all the needs of the Music Project, as well as those of our students of folkloric dance and of the community at large. Thanks to the volunteer design work of Engineering Ministries International (EMI), we have a vision for the theater’s design.

The new Teatro Alpino will be built in a large grassy area that currently stands vacant in the middle of the Cusmapa campus. As currently envisioned, the Teatro Alpino will provide our students with:
  • A 30 x 40 foot large stage
  • An audience hall big enough to seat 300 guests
  • 2 smaller rehearsal stages
  • 6 classrooms/practice studios
  • Performance dressing rooms for the boys and the girls
  • A ticket office
  • Planned outdoor play space for the younger children

Community Benefits
La Familia Padre Fabretto is deeply involved with, and tied to, the community of San Jose de Cusmapa. At the moment, the town has no real civic center or indoor facility, other than the church, large enough to accommodate a significant number of the townspeople.

Cultural Life

The Teatro Alpino will be available for the community to hold town meetings, to have dances and community celebrations such as graduations and holiday festivals.

The cultural life of the town will be enhanced as the townspeople come to see not only their own children perform, but also visiting artists from other parts of Nicaragua, Central America, and even the US. Finally, there will surely be micro-business opportunities for entrepreneurially minded Cusmapans to meet the needs of visiting audience members and performers with food, lodging, and other services.

Help us Make the Teatro Alpino a Reality!

You can make a contribution now or make a pledge of support, payable by September 30, 2006. All funds raised through this initiative will be used to cover costs of construction and the implementation of the music, arts, & dance curriculum in the new facility.
