Scholarships

The opportunity to learn a trade or earn a college degree is an important component in helping our students escape poverty.  Fabretto is committed to providing deserving students access to vocational training programs and university studies.  Students meriting support and interested in either a vocational or technical degree program will begin their apprenticeships as early as in the third year of secondary school. Meanwhile, those students who complete their secondary school studies can apply for support to five-year bachelor and professional degree programs at Nicaraguan and other Central American universities.

The ever increasing success of the programs at our centers is yielding greater numbers of students wanting to continue their vocational or post secondary school studies.  In 2005, we offered support to 168 scholarship students, 190 in 2006, and 230 in 2007. We anticipate continued growth in demand for advanced studies support for the next five years. However, scholarships are approved and renewed on a yearly basis, depending on the availability of funds.

Students pursuing advanced studies are pursuing careers in a wide array of fields, including:

Vocational & Technical Programs
  • Auto Mechanics
  • Accounting
  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
  • IT & Computer Maintenance
  • Metalworking
  • Social Work
  • Teaching

University Studies
  • Accounting
  • Agriculture
  • Business Management
  • Computer Science & IT
  • Hospitality Management
  • Humanities
  • Law
  • Medicine
  • Music
  • Psychology
  • Social Work

How You Can Help
There are three primary ways that our supporters can help us provide scholarships to our students:
  • Through our Sponsor a Child Program you can sponsor an individual student for $780 a year, or $65 a month, through his or her advanced studies program.  Please click on the link above to find out how this initiative could work for you.

  • Donors able to consider larger donations may wish to support a group of 5, 10, 20 or more students through a block grant for scholarship support.  Typically, these grants are renewed annually, at the donor’s discretion, as the funding will provide for a single year’s tuition coverage for the target students.  Each year, you will receive a summary binder with a letter and a review of the academic performance of each of the students the grant is funding.

  • A contribution to our Scholarship Endowment will yield income on a long-term basis to support students today and in the future.  A donation of $27,500 is sufficient to endow a named scholarship for one student.  Each year you will be notified of the student your gift is supporting and you will have the ability to correspond and keep in touch with him or her. Endowed scholarships can be directed as you wish, either to a young man or woman, a student pursuing a specific career path, or can be left open for Fabretto to assign to a most deserving young adult.

Please Contact Us to discuss any of the above options.

The Fabretto Children's Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, tax ID #36-3894824.

A Scholarship Student
Scholarship Student Jasmine
Doris is one of our young deserving women looking to continue her academic career past high school. A student from our San Isidro center, she is entering her second year of technical studies, in administration and accounting.

A summary of her application profile includes:

Age: 20

Family Situation: Doris lives with her mother, two siblings and two other family members.

Home Situation: Doris lives in a small, wooden house, with just three small rooms for the six members of her family. Although their house is small, they are fortunate to have electricity and running water.

Family Income: Doris’ mother is a seamstress, and works out of the house doing small sewing jobs for other families in the community. Her older brother also works as a security guard, to supplement the family’s income. Despite their hard work, the family’s monthly income is only about seventy five dollars, barely enough to cover their basic needs. Although Doris’ family is supportive of her educational goals, they do not have the financial capacity to pay for her studies.

Hopes & Dreams: Doris values her education highly, and knows that it is the best way to improve conditions for her family and her community. She is also willing to make sacrifices in order to see her dream come true. She works hard to get good grades, and also continues to help to educate the children in her community, through her volunteer activities at the Fabretto center in San Isidro.
