Alumni Success Stories
Fabretto's success can be measured by the thousands of boys and girls who have gone on to become successful teachers, farmers, tradesmen, businessmen and responsible parents. Here are just a few of their stories.
Edwin Alonzo Aledon
Edwin is 26 years old. He was born in Somoto Madriz. In 2001 he began to attend the Fabretto Center where he took computer and typing classes until 2003. After graduating from high school, he moved on to university studies. In 2004, Fabretto gave him the opportunity to be part of the scholarship program in Somoto.
After almost 5 years, Edwin graduated and obtained a degree in Agricultural Engineering (Farming) in May 2009. In August 2009, he was offered to work at CARUNA, a cooperative of savings and credits that works with government funds and provides credits for local farmers.
Edwin is grateful for Fabretto because he wouldn’t have been able to finish his studies without the organization. He is happy to have a good job and be able support his family.
Freddy Nicolás Alvarado Maradiaga
Freddu was born and raised in the community of Quebrada Honda, is 29 years old. At the age of 10, he began in the Fabretto program motivated by the guitar classes offered there. He carried out his primary school studies at Escuela Padre Fabretto and his secondary school at the Institute Padre Rafael Maria Fabretto located in Las Sabanas, a mountainous region in northern Nicaragua.
Once Freddy graduated from secondary school, Fabretto offered him the opportunity of a scholarship for his university studies. During 3 years, he studied Primary School Education in Estelí. Freddy says that his main inspiration in getting a degree in education was the work that he saw Fabretto do in his community.
In 2005 after his college graduation, Freddy collaborated with Fabretto in the area of sponsorship for a year. After that year he was hired by the Ministry of Education to work as a teacher in a school located in the community where he is from.
Johana Altagracia Gonzalez
Johana is a 28 year old mother. She was born in Cusmapa, but she currently lives in Somoto – a city 45 minutes away from Cusmapa, in the center of the state of Madriz.
Eight years ago, Johana’s life was completely different. Though she loved the idea of going to nursing school, she didn’t have the option to do so after high school. Her parents lacked the resources to pay for her studies and support her family at the same time. However, thanks to Fabretto and its generous donors who instilled in her a legacy of faith, love for one’s neighbor and humility, she was able to pursue nursing school thanks to a scholarship. She then became licensed in Public Health, which changed not only her own life, but also the quality of life of her family. Now licensed and educated, Johana is currently working as a general nurse in the health center located in Somoto.
Today, her son works with the same dedication that Fabretto instilled in her. He receives a top-notch education at a private school, an opportunity she never had as a child due to her family’s financial situation. She has had many experiences in life, such as working in a community with extremely limited access. She lived with people who didn’t have the opportunity to move past the harsh poverty they experienced daily. This taught her the meaning of living in solidarity with others. Her personal motto is: “Spiritual poverty is one of the greatest obstacles that keep us from achieving our dreams. We must break the barriers of “I can’t” and keep fighting until we reach our goals. I will keep trying.” “Thank you Fabretto!”
