Scholarships

The opportunity to learn a trade or earn a college degree is an important component in helping our students escape poverty. Fabretto is committed to providing deserving students access to vocational training programs and university studies. Students meriting support and interested in either a vocational or technical degree program will begin their apprenticeships as early as in the third year of secondary school. Meanwhile, those students who complete their secondary school studies can apply for support to five-year bachelor and professional degree programs at Nicaraguan and other Central American universities.

The ever increasing success of the programs at our centers is yielding greater numbers of students wanting to continue their vocational or post secondary school studies. In 2005, we offered support to 168 scholarship students, 190 in 2006, and 230 in 2007. We anticipate continued growth in demand for advanced studies support for the next five years. However, scholarships are approved and renewed on a yearly basis, depending on the availability of funds.

Students pursuing advanced studies are pursuing careers in a wide array of fields, including:

How You Can Help
There are three primary ways that our supporters can help us provide scholarships to our students:
  • Through our Sponsor a Child Program you can sponsor an individual student for $780 a year, or $65 a month, through his or her advanced studies program. Please click on the link above to find out how this initiative could work for you.
  • Donors able to consider larger donations may wish to support a group of 5, 10, 20 or more students through a block grant for scholarship support. Typically, these grants are renewed annually, at the donor’s discretion, as the funding will provide for a single year’s tuition coverage for the target students. Each year, you will receive a summary binder with a letter and a review of the academic performance of each of the students the grant is funding.
  • A contribution to our Scholarship Endowment will yield income on a long-term basis to support students today and in the future. A donation of $27,500 is sufficient to endow a named scholarship for one student. Each year you will be notified of the student your gift is supporting and you will have the ability to correspond and keep in touch with him or her. Endowed scholarships can be directed as you wish, either to a young man or woman, a student pursuing a specific career path, or can be left open for Fabretto to assign to a most deserving young adult.
