About The Corazon De Oro Award
The Fabretto organization was founded in 1953 in Nicaragua by Italian missionary Father Rafael Maria Fabretto. During his decades of service to the children of Nicaragua, he called upon people from all walks of life to do what they could to help the children - from campesino farmers and wealthy business owners, to homemakers, humble tradesmen and political leaders. He would proclaim that those who went above and beyond the call of duty to help the children had “un corazón de oro,” a heart of gold. The Corazón de Oro Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate this same commitment to helping Nicaragua’s children and who thereby help to keep our mission alive in the communities we serve.
